System Integration is Key for HR
As employers upgrade their HR processes to leverage new technologies, they’re challenged by the issue of system integration. After all, large HR departments may rely on 12 or more separate systems, notes Ward Christman, HR Technology consultant and author of the HR Tech Advisor Blog.
“That data needs to flow back and forth, ideally in real time, so systems must talk to one another. Cloud technology helps with this because it makes it easier to connect data.”
While some organizations are content to keep distinct HR processes separate for now, a growing number recognize the efficiencies achieved by real-time integration, and are budgeting and planning accordingly.
In response, software vendors are offering employers integration solutions that vary in scope, from HR software with built-in middleware, to integrated HR suite solutions, to comprehensive Enterprise Integration Strategies (EIS).
But where to begin? According to Mike Haberman, founder of Omega HR Solutions and author of the HR Observations Blog, integrating time and attendance and payroll processing systems makes a logical first step for many employers—one that quickly pays off by saving time and labor.
