Employers have increasingly turned to mobile time tracking as the way to track time and attendance for all of their mobile employees, especially those who are out of reach of a traditional time clock. By using smartphones and tablets equipped with mobile time tracking apps, they are able to manage the hours worked by employees who travel to multiple locations or who are out in the field.

The following mobile time tracking app features make it easy for employers to manage their workforce from afar.

  • GPS verification
  • Group punch for supervisors
  • Offline mode
  • Bar code and QR scanner
  • Fields for recording mileage, tips, and supplies
  • Digital signature sign-off
  • Time and task allocation

Since mobile technology is always changing, we’ve compiled a list of new mobile time tracking features you should watch.

Three New Mobile Time Tracking Features to Look For:

  1. Geofencing

geofencingGeofencing is a feature that uses GPS or radio frequency identification (RFID) coordinates to define geographical boundaries. A geofence serves as a virtual barrier that allows an administrator to set up triggers, so that when a mobile device enters (or exits) the boundaries defined by the administrator, the system will automatically clock out employees. Employees can receive alerts that they are nearing the perimeter of the geofence, and if they leave their designated worksite, they will be clocked out. Geofencing can help increase employee accountability and productivity while guaranteeing that employees are working where they say they are.

  1. Face Capture

Mobile face capture allows employees to use the front facing camera feature on mobile devices to take a photo of themselves as they clock in and out, so there is an added level of verification. This feature can put a stop to buddy punching by guaranteeing the employee that is punching in and out is actually the one on the job.

  1. Check Point Data Capture

Check point data capture requires employees to provide confirmation that they are physically at a check point between a clock in and a clock out. Employees scan a QR or bar code at each checkpoint they reach, which then sends the geo-coordinates to the server in real time. This feature is often utilized in the security industry to guarantee that employees are reaching all areas that they are supposed to monitor.
